Monteoro Minerals (TSXV: MTAU), the newest of the Colombian stocks on the TSX Venture Exchange, began trading in Toronto on Monday, November 2, 2026. The gold-copper explorer raised C$10 million on the way in and has no mineral resource yet, so for now investors are backing a team and a large land package.

Monteoro listed as a Tier 2 mining issuer under the symbol MTAU. CEO Robert Neill and director Robert Shaw opened the market at TMX in Toronto. It is the first new Colombia-focused mining listing in Canada since President Abelardo de la Espriella took office in August on a pro-mining platform.

How the first two days went

On its first day the stock opened at C$0.87 and closed at C$0.76 on 85,100 shares, according to delayed exchange data published by Boursorama. That close was a cent above the C$0.75 financing price and values the company at about C$104 million on 136.6 million basic shares. On November 3 it traded at C$0.80 in light volume. Two thin sessions say little; the first real test is drilling.

How Monteoro got to market

Monteoro did not file an IPO prospectus. It went public through a reverse takeover of 1287405 B.C. Ltd., a reporting shell that had never traded, under a statutory plan of arrangement:

  • Feb 6, 2026: non-binding letter of intent signed (announced March 31).
  • June 24: arrangement agreement signed (amended September 1).
  • Oct 20: the shell consolidated its shares and renamed itself Monteoro Minerals Ltd.
  • Oct 29: the deal closed.
  • Nov 2: first day of trading.

The money: smaller and cheaper than planned

When the deal was announced on March 31, the plan was to raise C$5 million to C$17 million at C$0.85. What closed, per the July 8 release, was C$10.0 million at C$0.75: 13,342,800 subscription receipts, including a partial over-allotment. Haywood Securities led the financing as sole bookrunner, with Research Capital Corp. in the syndicate. Each receipt converted into one share plus half a warrant exercisable at C$1.00 for 36 months.

That is a 12% lower price and about 59% of the original maximum. Buyers were willing to fund a Colombian discovery team, but they set the terms. The money is for Colombian exploration, transaction costs and working capital.

Who runs it

The board is Robert Neill, Gustavo Koch, Robert Shaw, Marc Prefontaine and Richard Paolone. Reem Chalhoub is CFO and Felipe Rodriguez Novoa, P.Geo., is VP exploration. Bloomberg Línea reports that Koch comes from Koch Minerals & Trading, that Shaw worked on AngloGold Ashanti’s La Colosa and on Gramalote, and that Prefontaine co-founded Orla Mining and led Grayd Resources before its sale to Agnico Eagle. The company says its team has been involved in Colombian discoveries totalling more than 50 million gold-equivalent ounces. That describes past careers, not Monteoro’s own assets.

What it owns

Monteoro cites more than 1.2 million hectares in Colombia and six priority projects. It has not published a split between granted titles and applications, which matters in Colombia, where applications can take years.

  • La Ruana, in the Middle Cauca belt between Collective Mining’s Guayabales and AngloGold Ashanti’s Quebradona: five gold-copper porphyry centres and about 12,000 m of historical drilling by Solvista Gold and IAMGOLD (2012 to 2014), with long near-surface intervals such as 457 m at 1.24 g/t gold equivalent. These are historical results, not a resource. Drill permits are in place, with about 5,000 m planned for 2027.
  • Marquesa, in Antioquia about 10 km north of B2Gold’s Gramalote: surface sampling and 1,475 m of historical drilling around more than 60 artisanal workings.
  • Nudillales: an undrilled copper-gold-molybdenum target with a soil anomaly at least 1,200 m by 400 m, about two to three hours from Medellín.
  • Three earlier-stage projects: Buriticá West, the Mande Trend and Santa Elena.

Why it matters for Colombian stocks

A new Colombian listing is a signal in itself. Monteoro’s scaled-back raise shows money returning to Colombian exploration on investors’ terms, and the timing followed the new government’s first moves to lift mining restrictions. The company plans to start drilling several targets in the coming months. Until results arrive, MTAU trades on people, ground and sentiment rather than defined ounces.

What to watch

  • First drill results at La Ruana and Marquesa, and whether new holes confirm the historical intercepts.
  • The October 26 Filing Statement on SEDAR+: closing cash, use of proceeds and the title-versus-application split.
  • The first 15% escrow release, around May 2027.
  • A likely follow-on financing in 2027.
  • Colombia’s “Milagro Week” investor showcase in New York, November 16 to 19.
